A warrior respite and retreat will provide respite, relaxation and educational opportunities to veterans and their families through outdoor activities.

Patriot Farm will have professional literature, marketing, and dedicated dates to host veterans’ events. We will procure a form of transportation, such as an off-road vehicle, for guests with limited mobility. Our goal is to ensure all guests can enjoy the walking trails on the property and participate in seasonal events.

By the end of December, 2025, Patriot Farm will have an identified annual event to raise funds. We will also have amassed volunteers to act as hosts for veterans at events throughout the year to expand our service opportunities and outreach.

Busy weekend at the farm! A couple of veterans are spending a long weekend at the Farm having a family reunion with their crew. They spent some time on the trails, relaxing, and a trip to Riverside Park in Newaygo to do some fishing. Saturday night we were able to host the winners of the charity auction dinner for our great partners the Newaygo County Compassion Home. The theme was a taste of the Mediterranean. It’s horse season! We currently have Trooper, Poppy and Colt visiting. We will have horses throughout the summer, typically until our fall event in October. #newaygocounty #horses #friendship #outdoors #michiganveterans

The incredible amount of rain the month of April caused tons of flooding in Newaygo. If you’ve been to the farm, you know we are on a high bank. The ground was so saturated that approximately 200 feet of the high bank has either washed away or is in the process. The pictures don’t begin to show the damage. A few maple trees we have tapped in the past are now somewhere downstream in the river. We’re beginning to work with a number of organizations to try and get a plan together to limit the continuing erosion so the house and the sugar shack are not affected in the immediate future.#newaygo #veterans #erosioncontrol #veteranowned #soilconservation

This beautiful family is spending Easter weekend at the farm! They’ve had a great time relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet. We had a visit from Family Farm and Home in Fremont to drop off a new campfire pit they donated! These young helpers, unloaded the box and moved some firewood that was also donated. While they were here, we took the opportunity to check out the views from the Sugar Shack, and explain the process of making that golden sticky deliciousness! This weekend Nathan Cantrell and I have had the incredible opportunity to stay at Patriot Farm A Warrior Respite & Retreat . I didn't get to take many pictures as I was just spending time enjoying the place and taking it all in.
If you're a veteran family, it's a must visit location for some r&r. We got the chance to also see the sugar shack in use and junior got a homeschool field trip of sorts!

If you’ve never tapped a maple tree, this will be your reaction…Before the drillbit was even out of the tree sap was running down the trunk. Loaded the sap to our storage tank, started the reverse osmosis and boiled… We pulled our 1st gallon of syrup off tonight. Sap should be running all night with more boiling and syrup on Friday. Busy day at the farm on Saturday! Several family members came up to help on the Farm House and do our first boil of the season. Based on the weather forecast, I anticipate we will be collecting Monday and Tuesday late afternoon with another collection and boiling on Wednesday. 90 taps and we’ve processed#gvsualumni #michiganveterans #newaygocounty 150 gallons. The Farmhouse doors are open and ready for guests! (See below)
Additionally, the Sugar Shack has been completely renovated and transformed into the most amazing sugar shack you’ve ever seen! We are hoping to utilize the building throughout the year with the improvements that have been made to the sugar shack. We can’t wait to see what it gets used for. We’d also like to generate some revenue by allowing other non-Veteran groups to rent the facility/property. Please think outside the box as well as help us spread the word regarding this!
Our syrup event will look a little different this year, in that we will have lots of opportunities to collect sap and boil. Syrup season is typically around mid February to end of March. Sap collection will take place 2-4 times each week and boiling 1-2 times each week depending on the weather. Because this event is completely weather dependent, we will publish our event date after the season starts.
The Farmhouse!!!! We’re looking for someone to do a trial run some weekend in January and help give us feedback on what little things might be missing. (Please message if you're interested.) We have bedding and linens, and are hoping to have very basic pantry supplies available; salt, pepper, spices, sugar, etc. Aside from that, guests would need to provide their own food and beverages. No pets will be allowed.
Additionally, we are finalizing details on how to go about allowing Veterans to reserve a weekend in February or March to participate in syrup production.

Are you a fan of great pancakes? If you make your own maple syrup, you’re probably pretty good at pancakes! My favorite pancake has apple and pecan with a little vanilla. Today I thought, let’s try a Christmas pancake and added fresh cranberries with a little lemon zest as well. Absolutely fantastic and it gives a wonderful smell to the kitchen! I spy a Bald Eagle, Newaygo Plumbing, and beautiful maple trees all at the sugar shack! Watch for exciting changes at Patriot Farm during syrup season this year! As many of you know, we’ve poured our hearts into renovating The Farmhouse so it can become a welcoming, restorative space for veterans and their families. Thanks to your generosity, we’re so close to the finish line — what was once a vision is becoming a reality!

But as we reach these final stages, our funds are extremely limited. To open the doors and make the space fully usable, we need one last push of support.
